I use an MSR PocketRocket that uses a mix fuel canister. It is small and lightweight and I can hike with it.

If you're going to use it quite often I would say go with something more efficient.If not or if you'll use it only once in a while, I say that something more cheap will serve you just fine.

But tbh, I'll upgrade mine sooner or later.

I use the Primus Classic. It's not as lightweight or compact as some stoves, but it's tough and puts out good heat.

You can also purchase canisters with a propane / butane blend that works down to 10 degrees below 0 F

just sayin...

Anybody use one of these little wood stoves? Tempted to buy one for my pack as I live in the Great Pacific Northwest and random sticks and shit to burn everywhere=no need to carry/buy fuel. No experience with them though not sure how well they work.

Thanks for the diy link but I have more cash than time... I'd rather spend that hour working on one of my cars or flying my quadcopter.

Still doesn't answer how it compares to a quality gas stove though....

Got the same, love it, especially that you can wrap the windshield completely around, not possible with canister top stoves. also, much more stable due to big tripod and low point of gravity.
