What medicines do you bring with you?
What do you make or scavenge?
I make sure to always bring aspirin, since in addition to its better known uses, it is also a decent antifungal when powdered, and can be used to deal with warts.
I make charcoal to eat if I have gut problems.

I bring 800mg Aspirin, Tramadol 50mg (mild synthetic painkiller), Morphine (whatever mg I can get), marijuana, and alcohol (vodka). Typically I never take the Aspirin (seriously... idk why I bring it), take 4 Tramadol every night, smoke marijuana every night, and have a few drinks. Gets rid of my tired ass legs and helps me enjoy my surroundings. Only take the morphine when i'm feeling really fucked up and know I hurt myself.

I haven't been /out/ for more than a day at a time, so I only bring a basic first aid kit. 2 or more days and I think you'd only need antibiotics, blood thinner, antihistamine, pain reliever, anti-inflammatory, and any medicine related to allergies. Some medicines do multiple jobs, so I'd probably spring for:

>antibiotic
amoxicillin (or doxycycline if allergic to penicillin) for internal infections. For injuries, neosporin or off-brand equivalent. Colloidal silver gel for burns.

>blood thinner/anti-inflammatory/mild pain reliever
Aspirin (or ibuprofen if allergic to aspirin), hard liquor. Ibuprofen is a good anti-inflammatory as well.

>antihistamine
Benadryl - doubles as a sleep aid. You can try nasal sprays or eye drops if allergic to benedryl.

>pain reliever
Tylenol, Advil, or off-brand equivalents (more intense pain will call for prescriptions or illicit substances, or a good quantity of hard liquor)

>medicine related to food or rash allergies
Ivarest for poison ivy, Colloidal oatmeal and an ice pack for any unknown rash. Asthmatics need inhalers, those allergic to bee stings need epi-pens. Do some research and determine what is right for you and your group. Unfortunately, there is no treatment for food allergies - so be aware and watch what you eat!

What does charcoal do if you are having stomach issues? I know they give it to people who overdose... just wondering, as a guy with a sensitive stomach who constantly gets diarrhea while camping.

If you're bit by a rattle snake benadryl can save your light. Not only does the antihistamine lessen the potency of the venom, it's sedative quality lowers the heart rate and can calm you down thus slowing the spread on the poison in your body allowing you more time to make it to a hospital or to a location with antivenom.

Sucking venom from the wound is also a good idea, your body doesn't absorb the vendom sublingually or in your stomach.

T. was on a canoe trip when I was 16 and a kid was bit. Trip leaders filled him with benadryl and he seemed pretty much normal until we got to the park ranger HQ 2 hours later who had a snake bite kit, he also went to the hospital after.

I use a plantain poultice for rashes, stings, and small abrasions/cuts. It works moderately well.

Willow bark tea for pain, not as good as an actual pain killer, but something.

Pine resin for wounds to keep them from getting infected

Cattail root for burns.

Charcoal for gut problems.

Black walnuts for intestinal parasites.

And of course, pot for recreation.

If you're going to use aspirin, just use some real shit instead of gimped crap. Why not use a real antiseptic or bandages? Activated carbon is used for poison treatment, there's insufficient evidence that backs up using it for diarrhea and it has possible side effects of doing just that.

Activated carbon has the surface area of a hockey rink in a tea spoon. The chemistry is secondary, it just takes everything from inside of your gut and puts it outside.

I'm understanding that amoxicillin doesn't go bad, since it's a by-product of mold anyhow. It just loses potency over time, so as it gets older you'd have to take more of it for it to be effective.
