The world is full of opinions, let's hear yours on manual chain-saws. I've never used one, but am looking at them for my next hike.

the good people at Coghlan's make a couple different saws like this. I kinda want one but have no real use really... sorta want to use it like a ninja and choke bad guys while sawing their heads off

Why a manual chainsaw? The only positive I can think of is that it packs down so small, but the same can be said for a bucksaw if you're able to make a wooden frame in the bush.

Get a folding saw OP. There are plenty of good ones, and they're usually about $20. Bahco Laplander is /out/ approved, but the saws you get at Lowe's or Home Depot will work just as well.

This. There are plenty of tests and reviews on youtube. Every single one manual chain saw sucks. If you want one, you'd better know how to make a frame for it (my pic) and also carry the cordage required.

A lot of people hate on smaller saws but they're fantastic. I have a little MS 180 and as long as you don't get too ambitious they're great. It's a nice change from using something bigger too.

I have one of those saws and when I first used it, it cracked me up at how well it worked. I mountain bike on forest service trails and have cut up a lot of dead falls on the trail. I have used it many times and it is still sharp and hasn't broke yet.

This is kinda a lame picture but I never really took many pics of me using it. Also the wood where I live is soft, Hemlock, Spruce, etc. so you have to factor that in.

i haven't but they do have breddy güd reviews. like most coghlan's stuff, i wouldn't say it's good for heavy use

Ive owned 2. One of the first pic and one "good" one. Both broke before making it 2 inches into a 5 inch log.

Get a folder, they work surprisingly well

Never used a pocket saw before but I use my Bahco laplander and that thing is incredible. It's just one of those things where you want to go slower as you push because I bent my blade a little when I was first using it. A little too happy with my success hahaha

I couldn't justify a saw quite that big. Went with the MS 362C-M. I'm a big fan of the motronic, I just hope it stands the test of time.

I have 2. One is the bahco laplander and one is the sven saw. The sven is slightly better saw but the triangle shape makes the max diameter kind of small. Get the larger 21 inch version if you do. The bahco is not as sturdy but it is a great saw and compact. At times it tends to get stuck and I'm afraid it will snap but it never does.
