looking to start hunting, what's the best way?

I'm really interested in hunting, but I really don't know how get started. I know I have to get my license/etc, but what do most people do after that to get out in the field?

I know there are guided hunts and those seem a bit expensive, but I guess that's much simpler than finding someone leasing out their land with no guide?

Well, you've got to find land to go hunting on. So depending on where you are and what you're hunting you can look into state or county owned public hunting land or you may have to find a lease.

I'd lurk and ask around on some hunting forums about what is typical in your area so you don't get faggy responses like this dipshit >>581399

If all else fails, contact your state DNR. They should be able to provide some basic guidance about where to go.

What area are you in and what did you plan on hunting? I'm from PA, here you have to go and take a hunters safety course, when you complete/pass the course you get a certificate and a little card. The little card has your info on it and you need it to purchase a hunting license.

I think hunting is generally the same for most animals. Find out where the animal lives, go and learn the animals daily movement, find a spot a good distance away with cover or with room to set up a blind. When my dad taught me about deer hunting this is basically what we did. We would spend every sunday in the woods just watching how the deer moved through the area, where they ate, drank, took breaks, and would bed down for the night. First day would come and we knew exactly where to be and when to be there. There's never any guarantees, because animals aren't machines, but this worked for us for many years.

If you have no contacts with people that manage land or hunt already, and you want to make hunting a lifestyle, you've got to look at public land. There's nothing else to it. Pasting my reply to another anon posting a similar question in a different thread:

People rent land for hunting. There are ranches and it doesn't hurt to ask neighbors. I use this sites map to find areas to offroad but it should help you find hunting ranches/guides state parks
