I need help buying a tent.
>3 season
>ventilation because Florida, it's extremely hot and humid
>big enough for 40 lb dog and I.
>packs small enough to carry in backpack and not too heavy
>under $200

Does this exist? A lot of the lightweight tents I've looked at are $300+ and I'm broke. I just want to get outdoors bros.

I'm a complete newbie in regards to camping and I want to learn all that I can.

I feel as if a miserably hot climate like Florida would be ideal for tarp tents. It would exceed your weight and space requirement and could allow a lot of airflow. You could get one with bug netting if that's a concern for you.

They usually don't have a lot of room but you could make it work on rainy nights. I'm sure you dog would be fine sleeping outside when it's not raining.

I just checked out REI and there's a ton of stuff that fits your needs in the backpacking tent section.

Personally I have had a Eureka Apex 2xt for over 10 years and used it all over Florida year-round.

Why are there always threads like this. Just buy a 30 dollar Coleman tent and take your dog into the woods and set up a camp for a night or two. If you are new any tent will work for months until you need a better more expensive special fancy tent. Don't be autistic about camping, if you have food and a tarp and some bugspray/netting you can definitely go out for a few nights in Florida. This is even the perfect season for camping in the south.

Yes, I always use a sheet of plastic you get at the hardware store for painting, it's lighter and cheaper than a tarp. It's to keep you dry from water in the ground and protect your tent bottom.

During the winter its dry(er) and gets down to 40° F occasionally. During summer its up to 90° with humidity and thunderstorms almost daily.

I want to start camping in the fall when it cools down. Too damn hot now.

I considered hammocks, but I don't know if it would be comfy enough. My dog weighs 40 lb and likes to sleep close to me.

Yeah im here in South Florida and would love to do hammock camping but I cant stay on the damn things when im knocked out. Ive got a small pup tent thats done me good. Cheapy 25 dollar one is great.

It is comfy only thing I dont like is the pole being in the middle of the doorway. Also gotta make the rear window accessible from the inside by adding a zipper. Other then that its great and super lightweight.

Yeah but its not bad, just open up the rear window and leave the front open a bit, if you use it for colder weather gotta attach the bottom of the front "doors" to the base somehow. I learned the hard way. thinking about adding velcro to keep it closed.

Get new stakes to go with it, original ones are shit. Also get some seam sealer and waterproof spray. The bottom of the tent is a tub which is nice.

Amazon, its gone up in price but i got mine a year back for 24 ish, If you dont like it return it. EZ Should be big enough for you and your dog no problem. Just remember that it needs the things ive said.

Got any tips on how to do this? I saw the pics from one review on Amazon where a guy did it with a denim zipper but I don't have a sewing machine.

Should I risk doing it by hand so long as I
seal the seams and waterproof it after?
