To be fair, the number used to be much higher. Even a year ago as many as 250 people a year were killed by wolves. It was easily the most dangerous thing about going /out/. Even armed with bear spray and firearms, dozens of people were killed by wolves every month. Recently though it all changed. Wolf protection has finally been advanced with new techniques. With the introduction of this new wolf bodyslamming technique, they are no longer a threat.

That's not true at all. Bears regularly steal kills from wolves. It's possible that a pack could kill a bear if they wanted to, but it would mean losing at least one wolf, and that's just not worth it.

Yeah I tell people this all the time. It's always some girl being afraid of wolves. Even though a wild wolf hasn't killed a human in 100 years in this country. Bears are dangerous though. But like the stats say, safer than wasps, dogs and horses. There's no poisonous snakes and spiders here basically.

-310 million people a year come into contact with dogs in the US
-31 deaths
-200 people a year come into contact with bears in the US
-0.5 deaths

from this perspective bears are WAY more fucking dangerous than dogs. the same comparisons can be made throughout the entire list

The stats mean the same though. if you're reasonably average you should be much more worried about the ones at the top of the list.

No one is saying(I hope) this means you should go trying to pet bears or not take precautions in bear country. If you meet a bear, yeah, you are in danger. But little old ladies and girls shouldn't worry about wolves or even bears.

yes it was just a number, but you must admit that a typical person would come into contact with a dog like 20 times a year (thousands of times for some people, maybe no less than 10 times at the least for others) and most of those people would come into contact with a bear zero times in their entire lives, nevermind per year. even conservatively it's still gotta be like millions of times more often for dog encounters than bears.

Yeah, I do, absolutely. It's not that every dog is 62x more dangerous than every bear. It's dogs as a whole that are 62x as dangerous, mainly because there is a lot of them and they live among humans while bears live far away from humans and avoid humans... But that doesn't change the stats. Obviously.

Keep in mind these are police dogs that are trained NOT to attack vital areas of the body. Note how many guys - big and little - are foundering around on the ground helplessly with a mere 70lb dog clamped on their severely damaged arm.

I'm sure there are some people out there that could kill a wolf bare handed but they're rare. Wolves spend their whole adult lives killing mammals that are far larger, lethal and have thicker skin than we do (bison, moose) and they frequently do it alone through patience and simple tactics.

Take an average wolf, an above average male human and put them in a room with no foreign objects for a week. Want to take bets on which one will be eating the other when you open the door?

Dogs also have built in weapons with their teeth. A wolf can crush bones with their bite. If dogs weren't able to take down a human then police dogs wouldn't work. Just watch one latch on an arm. They won't let go and you will not be strong enough to get it to let go. Now try fighting back as it shakes violently ripping muscles and tendons from your arm. Even if it lets go you now have one arm that may not work, and the dog maybe as a headache.

Pit bulls are awesome. They just need a specific owner. It's true that the breed CAN be dangerous. Any dog can be, it's just pit bulls have the strength and tenacity to be very dangerous. A miniature poodle can be aggressive and attack people and we just think it's cute, look at that little thing growl awww hes mad. Problem is when a pit bull does that, it can get ugly. They need a strong owner who trains and socializes them properly. My bet is this idiot neighbor does none of that, and thinks he looks tough with them.

The longer the jaw the weaker the crushing power. What dogs do is lock on to things with their jaw and use their body weight to thrash back and forth to do damage. A great technique against smaller prey but they are actually at a disadvantage against larger prey and that's why they travel in packs.
