Hey /out/ if all I can drive is a motorcycle, what clothes do you recommend to keep my 20 minute daily drive from literally killing me in the winter?

Quilted protective gear, waterproof riding boots, waterproof gloves, full-face helmet and a balaclava.

Heated grips are also nice if you can wire them to your bike.

Fellow biker from Montana here. The answer is leather. It blocks 100% of wind, which is by far the worst part of riding in the cold. It's extremely good for insulation as well. I wear skintight gloves under my riding gloves because warm hands save lives.

keeps me right for my 20 minute commute down to about 40.

colder than 40 and you need heated gear.

gerbing is the best

You can ride all day in gerbing gear all winter.

it is the only motorcycle gear I will swear by.

Studded tires are awesome.

I have an adventure jacket with a liner that works pretty well down to the mid-20's (°F).
Colder than that and I'll either wear a hoodie or protective vest under that.
Heated grips.
Dualsport helmet, w/ balaclava if it gets really cold.
Heated grips and snowmobile gloves.
My legs don't get cold, so I'm usually fine with jeans and a pair of waterproof overpants.
My snowmobile boots work well for the cold days.

Remember to rejet for the temp. You'll need to add fuel to account for the increase in air density as the weather gets cold.

Coldest i've ridden in on the street is -16°F. Worst part of it was having to stop every few minutes to scrape ice off my visor.

tell me you're not seriously considering buying that heap of trash? Project bikes are cool and all but you'll probably pay more than the whole bike is worth on a carb assembly (if you can even find one).

I mean, an old honda like that won't be worth all that much even if it's completely restored. For bikes like that if they need much more than new tires, new battery, carbs cleaned, and some rust removed from inside the gas tank then they're not worth it. Maybe if it was an old US or Euro bike it'd be worth it but older Jap bikes generally don't hold their value as well.

That old bike was never dependable, and cost me more than I should have spent.

I own a Harley now, and now only pay for tires and oil changes. which cost enough, I promise.

Gloves, pant, jacket.

Besides that. it looks gay as hell and you sure as hell aren't gonna be the coolest kid on the block. but a nice large ass windshield. [hurdur why ride a motorcycle if you're gonna have a windshield] basically keeps the wind from touching your body and pulling away heat..

Also this "rejet for air density" is cringe worthy and you should feel bad. Only time you need to change fuel mixture is altitude changes every 2k feet.
