A story similar actually happened at a ski resort I work at. I don't think it was in the winter though, because ski patrol rides up on snowmobiles and checks the chairs during the winter, but

An employee was working on the lift at the top, and a the general manager was at the bottom of the lift. The employee had to have the lift running to check to see if it was working right, and the general manager , for some reason, thought the lift was going to stay on until he got to the top, even though it wasn't normally supposed to be on that day. The employee finished his work, before the general manager made it up to the top, and unknown to him that the man was actually on the lift, shut it down and did other work. The General manager was stuck on the lift for something like 6 hours I cant remember. I can't remember how he got down, but It was something like, someone checking something nearby heard him yelling for help.

Now they put up signs, DO NOT GET ON LIFT . Lol.

first they should have thrown their shot on top of the snow tractor (and hit it) as it approached and should have aimed a ski so that it sticks upright into the snow before the tractor (it's hard to ignore skis coming from the sky)

failing that, what i would have done differently is make a rope! they could have used the cover of their seat cut it up and make a rope probably at least 5 meters long, then maybe their coats could have extended that to an other 2 meters (coats could have been recovered after jump and the one thrown down for the jumper the rest don again so no losing that shit), and the one who jumps should have rolled rather then try to break the fall with his legs like paratroopers do.

if they don't have enough material for rope then obvious move would have been the climb to a pole but not retarded way as seen should have used a belt or rope to secure himself allowing for rest and should have wrapped legs around the steel cable cloth bandage (t-shirt?) on legs and hands over the gloves. not letting your glove slide is a good way not to get your hands torn to shreds by wires sticking out.

there can be small thin hard wires sticking out of the bundle they will rip your skin apart and damage even a strong belt. best would be to use something metal or hard abs plastic like a ski pole basket or something. even that will not last forever.

Actually both hands should be kept inside the jacket and put back only for doing regular exercises.

In very cold conditions water from the breath condensates inside your jacket, and wets the clothes inside. Face gets wet too and then freezes. It's as useful as peeing in your pants. A better way is to warm your hands by keeping them under your armpits, then warm your face using one hand at a time (through the collar or sleeves)

Another survival skill I didn't learn from the movie is that they should have collected snow and ice to prevent dehydration.
