However, all those ultra light chairs with backrests are going to require assembly (the legs work the same as tent poles), will weigh more than the stool, and will have to be carried in a stuff sack and thus aren't "on the fly".
The trail stool, however, has zero assembly, you just pop it open and shut, and when it's shut, it's the size of two closed trekking poles, so you can literally just put it in the side pocket of your backpack and whip it out on the fly.
It's only 18oz, so it weighs the same as a good pair of trek poles. I just grab a walking stick instead of bringing trek poles, so thats' how I justify the weight.
