Anyway, I wasn't born in the Appalachians but my family moved there (Roane County, WV) when I was ten. There's not much to do, so people invent their own fun. That means doing lots of dumb shit.
But it's fun and your kids will grow up with stories to tell. Get them active when they're little with scouts/sports, be active in the community, and don't be afraid to try weird new things.
Limit their internet access. The internet is a lot more interesting than most of the things to do in the back woods tbh. If they spend too much time on it in middle school they'll become that weird kid that no one hangs out with.
Get Hughes Net. It's shitty enough to dissuade anything but casual browsing.
