By its look, it is more like a Strasbourgian stove: made to be at the center of the room.

Pic is what cozy mean in northern Japan.
Yes, it is heated.

I live in a log cabin (normal american one) and I think it's the coziest but I been looking at these russian traditional ones called izbas and they look double comfy

it's not a woodstove, it's more like a masonry heater
basically it's a woodstove with an integrated oven, coockplate and internal water bassin to cool the oven and to produce warm water and keep the room warm for a longer time

and yes, the cast iron coockplate is glowing red

to answer your question yes, this is the standard setup for a russian izba, ive slept on such a thing in winter, thats the only way to roll in winter

Yeah, but this particular furnace is very strange. In typical russian furance middle section is usually made for cooking and works as oven, and fireplace is in the bottom. But yeah, sleeping on such a thing is really cozy and warm, I've used to do this a lot at my grandparent's dacha (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacha).
