Not OP, but I have no significant other, and no attachment to friends or family.

I'm thinking about buying a motorcycle and going motorcycle camping around the world (starting with north america) and just hitting up cool locations, meeting new people, and maybe even meeting people who are doing the same thing as me.

I'm not 100% /out/, however. I still have attachments to some technology items. I would need ways to go on the internet occasionally (I have unlimited 4G LTE) and especially play my music.

whats wrong with driving a car around instead of a motorcycle? gives you a nice area to sleep in if you're travelling, just sleep at a wal mart parking lot or highway rest stop. with a motorcycle you're way more vulnerable to a lot of different things.

The same things that happen if you're driving a car? You can ride motorcycles in the rain. It's probably best to take shelter, however. That's what tents are for.

There's nothing wrong with driving a car around instead of a motorcycle, I never said there was. The motorcycle driving experience is incomparable to driving a car for me.

I had a job for 5 years but the place where I worked closed its doors. But even during that time I didn't felt the need to leave their house. I'm the only son and I have a pretty comfy life with them.

At truck stops there are always people around, and contrary to most of their outward appearances, truckers are usually good people, and will help each other. I watched a dude try to siphon gas from a truck and two other men came out, rouged the guy up, then dragged him behind the building with a tire iron in their hand. On the other hand, I'm always on edge at rest areas. They can go hours with no traffic.

well thats my point exactly, he was rash, and with some more forethought, I think he could have increased his odds quite significantly. Obviously you could always do more, but I feel like there's a bare minimum one should put in to be taken seriously as an example of trying to live it out in the wilderness. That being said, I honestly think he did ok with how little he prepped, had some pretty piss poor luck with the plant and the river.

What I take issue with is you using him to make a point about ones hope to live in the wilderness. That is to say that, "this guy died, so you'll definitely die as well". I don't think i'd necessarily do well, but it's not as hopeless as that guy's case may make it seem.

I have a 2 year plan.

I just acquired a reasonably seaworthy 32 foot sloop that im currently outfitting for a circumnavigation. The plan is about 2 years to leisurely sail around the world and then instead of coming back to the states I'll be relocating to the UK (dual citizen). After that the hope is to get work delivering yachts and busking (music degree hard at work lol)

So not gone forever, but still worth it to me.

To answer your question I think about it anytime I don't have a task to do.

About once every 2 or 3 months. I keep an excel spread sheet of how much it would cost to sell all my shit and just buy the gear I'd need to make an honest go at fucking off into the woods for keeps and update it for inflation about twice a year.
Current price is around 2100 and right on 65lbs. Sounds heavy as dicks until you realize you're only packing that when you're not in base camp.
