Because the ground is hard and the water will rock you to sleep hypothetically.

But the air bladder that keeps you afloat would probably work good enough as a sleeping pad on land. So I don't know really.

Some backstory please.
Maybe this is just a test or demonstration and it's actually designed for land use. In that case the concept might have advantages:

- its waterproof so no need for a bivy
- it maintains loft when at weird sleeping positions limbs might compress the loft or with strong winds
- no need for a sleeping pad or underquilt
