>>604065I grew up in a rural town in Washington and amongst my friends and I, we all worked up at the resorts through high school.
I was a lift-op at Hyak, Ski Acres and Alpental. The new fags would call this place the Summit at Snoqualmie. I would consider this the shit tier job where you work long hours and have to deal with all the retards unless you can get yourself to an upper chair. Alpental was perfect for that as over 70% of the mountain is black diamond.
One season I worked in the repair shop at Ski Acres and that was pretty cush other than dealing with all the rental madness every morning and the huge influx of rental gear later in the day. Though this job is generally broken up into two different shifts.
Another season I was a cook and this was probably the funnest job because you pretty much spend all morning prepping, then bang out the lunch rush, clean up and go ride all afternoon and night. Since all the kitchen staff knows each other, hooking one-another up on free food during off shifts was standard.
My last season I was a snowboard instructor, but at Crystal Mountain. The lessons were pretty cool and the yuppies tipped very well. This job pays more, but the hours are not as long. The standard were two group sessions x10-14 people per group OR a long private lesson.
The whole thing was a super fun experience and I didn't do it for the money, but moreso because my friends and I got free season passes and could ride together more often. Chicks were plenty, and never a short supply of ass. There was always a party going on somewhere. When I was up at The Pass, I shared a room with a few friends, but only stayed on the weekends. That was free. Actually all employee housing was free. Meals were discounted, seasons passes were free.
In conclusion, if you're not expecting to make any money, but want to get a lot of riding in, like to party, like to screw and like a jolly time in general then go apply. It was a super fun experience.
