>>615836It all depends on what part of Denver you want to live in. There are areas where mostly black people live which are very dangerous neighborhoods to be caught white/Hispanic/Asian in. Some of them are currently undergoing "gentrification" as hipsters move in, but all it could take is the economy tanking again and that could totally reverse. I'm sure you could find some cheap rent in those areas or areas adjacent to them.
On the other hand, even in the nicer parts of the city, what you'll often find is that the accommodations themselves are lacking, meaning no A/C or only a window unit (and you do need it in the summer, despite the locals who seem to think they can get by with just as swamp cooler), energy-sucking baseboard heating systems which will run your electric bill up in the winter, one tiny bathroom, small bedrooms... in other words, if you want something decent in a good location, you will most likely pay quite a bit.
>>615860Speed limits don't mean what you think they mean. this goes for any of the western states, be it Colorado, Utah, Arizona, California, etc. We have a little more freedom out here and we've got a good thing going on with the police where we drive 5-10 mph over the speed limit regularly, and they look the other way. Yes, it is considered rude to drive 55 mph in a 55 mph zone out here. Please learn to follow the locals' example.
Denverans really don't drive that badly compared to other places I've been to, though, like Phoenix and LA. You were probably in the passing lane, leaving too much space in front of you and the car in front of you, or otherwise interrupting the flow of traffic. Something you'll notice about most big western cities is that our freeways really aren't built to handle all of our traffic, so all it takes is one idiot driving too slow to turn a normal car load into slow traffic for everybody.
