Cut and sale firewood is the easiest. I know several people that do that as a main source of income, but they're old timers and live a lot different than younger folks. You can trap and sale the fur during the trapping season. You can also harvest berries to make jelly and harvest mushrooms. And make bow drills, hand drills, blow guns, fishing poles, ect and sale them on etsy or what not.

I forage for fungi, mostly chanterelles and the occasional chicken-of-the-woods. I sell them to local restaurants. Depending on the restaurant and demand, I can get between $10-20 for 1lb of chanterelles. Takes me a 1/2 hour to collect that much.

As someone who makes a living off of mining spring through fall, it entirely depends on the resource and location when it comes to being easy or hard.

There are places where I'm literally picking up hundreds of crystals or corundum off of the top of the mud, out in the open, and places where I'm picking up huge chunks of high quality obsidian and fire agate off of the ground. This obsidian and a couple bins full of it I have in storage were all picked up off the ground, and as for knapping quality it's 9/10, only some South American stuff is better, and has iron deposits which makes it significantly more valueable to jewelers and lapidaries. Lying on the fucking ground, more than I can carry.

There are also places where I'm digging ten feet into the side of the hill, pulling out huge chunks of rock and busting them open to find sub-par materials for the amount of work. It all depends.

I've known IT contractors working from boats stationed in Middle of Nowhere, Hawaii.

Most of my spots are in the PNW or surrounding states.

Anything of value that can be extracted in decent amounts. Do some research on local stones if you're interested, but nothing beats going out and exploring. Remember, if you find something on the ground, it came from somewhere. Try to think of where it came from by looking at it and it's surrounding environment, and follow the direction it likely is coming from until you find the source.

This tbh. I sell goth and edgy kids of the city deer antlers that I find while walking the woods for up to $50 to $120 dollars, and a friend of mine is selling them rabbit foots of the ones he kills for food for like $dollars each.

You could sell them as no-kill art supplies to hippies. They gobble that shit up. Look around for art fests, most cities have some form or art walk where you can sell things. Also, farmer's markets, but you have to rent the booth.

Do you know anything about mining in SoCal? I know the San Gabriel mountains have some gold deposits that wash into the rivers but I haven't had the chance to pan there yet. I have some experience panning in the Sierra Nevadas though. I have a vial full of black sand but I don't really know how or if I can turn a profit on it. And I know nothing about gemstones/semiprecious stones

I don't have any specific location tips, and I feel like it's a waste to look down there for gold because of nocal, but I recommend looking around the dunes area for obsidian, jasper, petwood and chert. I've found top quality red, green, yellow and brown jasper down there, as well as jaspagate/jasper chert mixes, and pretty nice chunks of petwood scattered around, a couple of head sized ones which are decently valuable for landscaping(50-100 bucks). Only low quality obsidian and chert, though I know there's good quality obsidian out there, and I also found a couple of chert/jasper sources that I didn't dig into that might have yielded some crazy shit so I know they're out there.

With resources like that, you're looking for large pieces with minimal fractures and imperfections, and lots of them, but good sized chunks of chert, jasper, petwood and especially obsidian sell well, and easily if you have boxes full of them.

I do this. Look for free wood on CL, load as much as I can into my truck and on my trailer, stack it up, and let it dry for a couple years. Split it, and sell it on CL for $.60/lb.

Honestly, I don't make much money doing it, but splitting wood is a great work out and relieves stress, and it pays the cost of gas at least. Plus, I've got a shit ton of wood to burn whenever I feel like it.
