>>608304Do people seriously believe that you can't feed yourself off of land? With even a mediocre level of experience and decent planning you can sustain yourself off of a small piece of woods, even through winter. Many people do this.
Jesus fucking christ there wasn't a wal-mart fifteen thousand years ago don't be an idiot.
>>608331>>608832I wouldn't say it's terrible advice but it's not very experienced advice either, coming from someone who lived on the road for a few years. Take as much money as you can, and you will not be able to feed yourself off of people giving you kickdowns while you hitchhike alone, even remotely. You're going to have to make money while traveling or carry a shitload of food bank food around with you. Hippie shit is absolutely how you get yuppie money, they admire and envy traveling/wandering and throw you twenty bucks just because it's a way to project themselves into your adventure. Guitars are great "I'm not dangerous" advertisement, and a good way to make money in cities. So are female road dogs with a visible pair of tits if you can get a hold of one at a gathering or city.
If you are hitchhiking on long, multi-hundred mile stretches of freeway going through the middle of nowhere, be prepared to fly an "On the road - anything helps" sign because you're going to have to in order to feed yourself. You can spend days on the same on-ramp next to a travel stop with nothing fifty miles in either direction not getting picked up, and there's nowhere to get free food in a "dignified" manner. As long as you aren't flying a guilt-based sign, though, you're only getting help from people who legitimately want to help people and feel good kicking you down 2-3 bucks as they drive by. Just letting you all know that it's not realistic to travel like this without ever having to fly a sign for food.
