There is a pond near me that stocks a couple of times a year. My buddy loves trout so we always go a couple of days and limit out each time to fill his freezer.
We call it meat fishing. Use treble hooks and berkleys powerbait. Not sporting at all but those stockies love that shit.

OP here. I went trout fishing again. I caught mostly tiny bass and some rock bass. I did manage to catch a very taste small mouth. Someone said I couldn't make this my thraed, so I'm making this my fishing thread. Post all your catches here so I can be jealous.

I've been fishing trout a bit lately. My last one was a stocked brown. Taste was not significantly better than rainbow. For cleaning any trout or salmon I really suggest this. It changed my life. The only thing he doesn't really show is make light vertical cuts on both sides just above the tail.

As someone who has professionally caught and cleaned salmon for a living, I can tell you that that is absolutely not the best way to clean a salmonid. He didn't even bleed it, for fuck's sake.

Where do you work?

I live in AK so have access to literal boatloads of salmonoids, and everyone around here bleeds them. So I go down south and bleed my fish and people look at me like I'm nuts.

The difference between a king that had a gill popped just inside the boat, and one that bleeds out in the oven, is night and day.

This is a male King Salmon my friend caught from the same exact place.

This fish had bled out so bad he couldn't be revived, so an exception was made to the rule of never taking fish out of that disgusting NYS waterbody.

I've been hitting the Appalachian creeks in the boonies. Despite everyone's sewer dumping into the creek, as well as a good amount of coal waste, the trout, mollyhogs, and redeye are thriving. I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it for myself.

This fish was released. Fish out of Lake Ontario generally taste gross IMO, and there's a lot of underreported contaminants.

There's a LOT bigger fish that are caught from Lake Ontario. That was was 20lbs, but I know people who've caught fish ~30+lbs.
