>>619263>>619264The romans took to using lead acetate, since even then honey was expensive, vinegar and lead werent. The luckier ones used a kind of syrup made by boiling the water out of grape juice. Too bad they'd often use lead pots for this because the liquid came out sweeter that way.
I wonder if any of that unfortunate knowledge persisted before people found out about lead poisoning.
