>>622942Beef farm, with a wee bit of barley grown each year too.
I have to begin by mentioning that as a farm type i'm obliged to moan about everything so take that into account... And I should mention some of the up sides which are a fair bit of variety, getting to make shit, some fun problem solving, and often nice tractor time to listen to audiobooks etc.
I suppose a lot of it is I don't much like cows, or rather being responsible for them. They're unpredictable and do retarded shit when you least want them to, getting out and breaking shit and having to be chased about the place. They're flithy fuckers too, not that i'm particularly clean myself but godammit i hate being splatted in the face with cow shit.
Winter is grim, mud everywhere and repetitive cow feeding jobs, coupled with moody cows.
Some jobs are just boring as fuck. Some are physically back-fucking (slipped a disc in feb and had some nasty sciatica etc, painful shit and still is troubling me).
On the plus side it comes with a house, one I could never afford to live in otherwise, surrounded by fields. Lots of access to land to do shit if I want (though being on it reminds me of work so i don't make a lot of use of it).
Pay is sporadic at best because farming cashflow is iffy and it feels like i'm on a sinking ship. The estate wants all little farmers out to be replaced by a couple large efficient money-making machines.
I do feel invested in what I do though which is good, like it actually matters. Many people don't get that I suppose. It can be a bad thing too though at times.
See - ask a farmer what's shit and they'll talk and talk and moan and moan and ramble on about the weather (which is fucking shit right now btw just to get that cliche in there).
