>>622687Bowie knives were designed as a side arm in the days before reliable pistols. If you plan to do a lot of knife fighting, it's a pretty good choice.
Ka-Bars are bowie shaped but more reasonably sized, and not a bad choice for an all around blade, though most people don't need more than an opinel 8-10 or a mora.
>>622692What about sami knives? They're designed to be used for tasks including removing small branches for firewood, and are thick with a scandi grind, I think they would work decently well on hardwoods, though I am not sure there are a lot of advantages over a hatchet or folding saw.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sami_knife>>622778Wouldn't a 4-7 inch knife do all those tasks, with the possible exception of bulk clearing equally as well? And I can't imagine a reason for hacking through bushes in a temperate forest. Don't get me wrong, I would love an excuse to carry a ridiculous fuck off bowie, but I don't see that it is worth the extra weight.
Of course it would probably be reasonably effective against skinwalkers, though not perhaps more than a 10mm, which would weigh about the same, and can also be used for deer hunting.
