Knife question /out/;
How would one go about sharpening a knife that has been blunted intentionally (see pic related)?
I know what kind of knife it is but nonetheless it's quite nice, and I'd love to be able to actually use it for practical purposes.

Yep, not an expert but I'm pretty sure it's a reproduction
I'll acquire a file and get to work on this bastard, bear in mind the actual working edge is ~half as thick as the other end

I'm hardly an ant semite don't worry, I've already spoken to somebody about having the insignia taken off the knife, personally I just want to be able to use it because it's comfortable and aesthetically I reckon it's pretty bloody nice

The cheapest way would be use of sandpaper (grits 600-2000).

but you should learn how to keep angle of edge on other knives first.

600 would probably take a long time to get the edge back since it was intentionally blunted. probably start with something closer to 150-200.

also you'd need a flat surface like a piece of glass to fix the sandpaper to.

More to the point, while it feel nice in the hand and such, if it's a knockoff, the steel will likely be shit tier.

And even original German blades are far inferior to modern knifes, so it's a no-win situation in this regard.

if its a reproduction knife chances are its makde out of a shitty stainless steel like J2 or 440A, and if so you basically cannot sharpen the knife to hold an edge for a useful period of time

however is someone for some reason made it out of carbon steel or 440c then took the edge off it would be easier enough to get a bench grinder for the rough work and a whetstone for the fine work and then something to buff out all the scratches and nicks you've made

what i would do however is undo the pins take the knife from the handle, get someone to make a replica blade in the correct steel then pin it all back together

also fuck you nazi piece of shit

not sure why you´d want to sharpen it, I mean who wants to run around with a hitler youth knife and actually use that shit, but thats your decision

start with a metal-file and work until you have somewhat of an edge and then tend to that with grindstones, I´d start with a #100 if you can get one, or a #200, then use a #800 and finish it of with a #3k

alternatively you can just get it done at a knife shop that do sharpenings, but with this knife I dunno, if you´re a murrican then it might be easier
