No the real issue with the picture is Sakagawea "guiding" them. For the majority of the journey she was another mouth to feed and an occasional interpreter that only came along because her husband Charbineau wouldn't go without her. Even when they got to Shoshone territory she didn't guide them, she only vaguely recognized some landforms that let them know they were in the right general area. Her brother (Kameawea?) turning out to be chief was pretty helpful, as they got fresh supplies, and IIRC horses, but the most directly helpful thing she did the whole time, aside from the interpreting, was pulling a crate out of the river when they tipped a boat on the way up the Missouri, which everyone else was doing as well.
Also her name is explicitly stated in the journals to be pronounced SAH KAH GAH WAY AH, but then again they spelled mosquito over a hundred ways, so they might not be the greatest authority.
