Worms are literally everywhere in the soil, and are pretty likely to be the most numerous animals on the entire planet. Some only infect specific species, some are opportunistic, and some infect a wide variety of species. You roll the dice every time you expose your skin to it, and your feet are no different.
Just because you haven't realized you have a parasite yet doesn't mean you don't and that other people shouldn't worry about it. They are very real and cause lots of medical problems. Sometimes they can take decades to grow out one stage of their life cycle and cause a noticeable infection.
