Northern Switzerland here, rain, snow, sleet, fog, and cold. I hope it stops snowing on Monday so I can at least have a walk on the snowshoes. Not sure about the avalance situation yet, but I guess touring is out of question.

Because toronto is full of fucking sad asians who have no will to live, let alone experience the outdoors.

GTA here. Nobody here gives a shit about outdoors either. they're all too busy being boring white kids who play videogames, drink and smoke weed. The most exciting thing anyone does around here is take a day trip to Toronto or Buffalo to go shopping.
I'm considering heading out to some park for an overnight on my own but I don't know shit about being outside.

I've done some walking in the Rouge River Park, and up at the Oak Ridges Moraine, but it's super light and doesn't really count as hiking.

I get my fix of the outdoors when I go treeplanting during the summer.

Where do you guys go in the GTA? I want some nice trails to explore.

I'm in Toronto. The asians I know who are interested in the outdoors are usually gearheads. They like the outdoors for the pretty pictures they can take with their multi-thousand dollar DSLRs, or they've got expensive bikes to ride, or they like glamping with all the spanking new shit they buy at MEC. That's my experience anyway. And it's only the more "established" age group, like 25-30 years old career people who seem to want be more well-rounded. Accountants and Management people who listen to Deadmau5. That kind of people.

Also currently living in Downtown Toronto. I get so sick of this city sometimes. I moved here 4 years ago. I always find myself craving the woods and open spaces. Sometimes I feel a bit clausterphobic here.I try to get out at least once a month to go trekking or whatever. I haven't found any good trails around here for hiking.

A lot of the fires are caused by idiots who disregard fire warnings and make campfires or throw cigarettes in the bush. But some are caused by sparks from the wheels of passing trains. Sometimes lightning, even when raining a lot can still burn especially with something as hot as lightning.
Last year we had a harsh fire season, at one point they were preparing the evacuate the entire town of Kirkland Lake because of a massive fire north of the town. We had to get water bombers from BC and Manitoba, and fire rangers from Quebec. Luckily there was minimal property damage, a few cottages got torched, but the owners had enough time to move their stuff out.
I know its not BC, but if an area is dry enough, anything combustible will burn with ease.

if you want to avoid crowds, don't go here, go to dilly dally peak, elsay lake (which is north shore), elsay mtn. (or is it mt elsay), mt harvey, brunswick mtn, mt st benedict, capilano mtn, and if you have time, head to squamish and beyond and go to mt mulligan, mt baldwin, metal dome, etc

Trust me, best way to get around in backwoods ontario. Check out Nomaps.ca, northern ontario maps, find some places about 5-6 portages in, you won't meet many other people out there. Crownland has way less visitors than parks, obviously.

Forest fires are indeed obligatory year round. Mostly they're caused by grade-school kids with matches, people who fuck up campfires and lightning.
