Definately looks like a species of Macadamia.

Not all varieties are edible. The seeming lack of a phyllode or leaf stem may put it into the inedible category. We have most varieties in one of the local botanic gardens here, I'll take a look through them and compare.

Was this growing wild or in someones yard?
