Lantern general.

I'm thinking about picking up pic related, anyone have any experience with it? Or even maybe something better (preferably not gas)?

I have one. Good lighting, good battery life. All around won't disappoint.

Another good pick is a Luci light. Solar charged light, battery lasts several hours per charge, it deflates so you can easily strap it to your bag/tent during the day. It's also water proof. Makes a perfect little tent lamp.

That's almost identical to a $10 lantern I got at K-mart. It was horrible, didn't work till I tore it apart and replaced the orings so that the contacts were in contact.

I just rig a 9 volt battery to a few LEDs and resistors, and carry backups. If you don't feel like doing some /diy/, just buy a luci.
