>injuries caused by plants/the elements and shit. One tip I always give the inexperienced is to make sure you cover up. Don't leave your tent open and don't expose any skin below your waist if you can help it.
Spiders, bugs, snakes, scorpions, mosquitoes...they are fucking everywhere, it's not just that they might be dangerous, they piss you off and rob you of a good nights sleep etc.
>PlantsAs I'm sure most of you know, often when your walking through the veldt/jungle etc. you get hundreds of these tiny red scratches on your legs without realizing until they start stinging and itching like hell. They are caused by various shrubbery, weeds, assholeish species of grass etc.
The mistake I made was learning to ignore them.
I was walking a day trail in the Drakensberg (starting at the bottom, up through some nice thick ravines with beautiful waterfalls and dense forests up to the peak which was a cold grasslandish environment).
I don't know when it happened exactly, I got the usual stinging sensations and I remember feeling wet, but I was running behind schedule and the wetness was attributed to the fact that the trail goes through a lot of shallow streams so I didn't stop for a break, only by the time I got to the top I was feeling very tired and lightheaded I can remember resting on this huge boulder looking at the view of the lancescape before turning back, but somehow I still didn't notice at this point.
I headed back, because it's too steep to go fast it's about 5 hours walk back to cabin, after half an hour or so I couldn't go on, there was this nice little pool of crystal clear water part of the stream flowing through the ravine, it had a dense tree canopy keeping the water cool.
So I decide to cool off and refill my bottle here.
I step in, the water comes up to just below my knees and when I looked down I almost pissed myself; red, the entire pool turned red in what couldn't have been 5 seconds.
