>>645584I think that, although you may be right, you're missing the whole idea about what depression is.
The thing is, your solution WILL work for someone that is sad. If you're super sad and really down, you're righr, just pull yourself up and snap out of it. You can get better just by changing your attitude.
True depression is different. I'm talking about clinical depression. With true depression, it really is beyond your control. You can do all kinds of positive things, but depression still looms. It truly can be a matter of "chemical imbalance". A matter of lack of seratonin, something physically wrong. It's not much different than type 1 diabetes. You can just choose to not be a diabetic, you just are.
Fortunately chronic depression is treatable. You need to understand it's more than just being sad. It is something that CAN be treated without medication, although medication has been proven to be effective. Therapy and counseling can help improve the way your brain works, can help rationalize and develop thoughts appropriately, so that you can work around depression and be happy.
Like another anon said, it is a lifelong affliction, however you do NOT have to suffer from it for life. You absolutely can fix it. Many people have been in your shoes, and many of them are now happy. Unfortunately many of them are also dead.
You are not weak, you do not have to take the easy way out. You can feel better. I promise you sc/out/ that you can do this.
I know because I did. I was there. My next step was the same as you, to give up, to disappear. I didnt. I stayed strong.
I'm happier than I ever have been now. I own a home, have a cool wofe with a baby on the way, and a cool ass fat dog. 5 years ago I was ready to die, today I can't wait for tomorrow.
You can do this.
