Hey /out/ this is a thread to outline your favorite Fish to catch, your favorite bait to catch them with and your favorite go-to techniques. I'm a big fan of dragging a baby brush hog through ruffage and shelter to make the largemouth's instinct strike. wbu?

Spotted Gar fishing in a nutshell

Catching the Spotted Gar is fun as fuck I have no idea why people consider them trash fish. They are big and put up a good fight.

I love fishing for catfish. I use chicken livers. I'll add several shot weights and make an easy cast out, keep the bail open, and wait. All that's left is setting the hook once line starts to spool off.

My father caught this 21 inch trout on plastic as well. Smallest trout out of the 5 was 15 inches

Mepps is the #1 choice, or a Rapala if the water is real clear. Largemouth and peacock bass all day.

Where do you live?

I have managed to hook gar on lures a couple times, but it is tough. Got one on a nightcrawler one night too, but they just played around with the hook forever before they actually took it.

If you are in South Florida catch one of these Lizards cut it in half and put it on a small hook. Keep the floater near the top of the water and try to find a gar in your lake/canal since they usually hang out near the top of the water.

Once you find the gar cast near it and move the bait slowly and it will almost always bite.

I need to try it. I have millions of those anoles (lizards) around my house. One little lake right down the street used to have a bunch of gar right near the shore in one spot. Haven't seen them the past couple times I have been there tho.

I'm in Broward. Tomorrow I'm gonna try to wake up early and hit some little ponds and canals out in Weston and Pembroke Pines.

I see you posting about mepps everywhere haha. Im a fan too, I absolutely love inline spinners. They produce for me when nothing else will and mepps are some of the best.

However, blue fox is still my #1 inline spinner. Usually gold, but silver if its clear and sunny. Try them, they have a little "vibrator" in the head so they draw extra attention, and ive noticed they cast better than the mepps.

I like #3 usually for extra casting distance. I catch little black crappie on them too so they are nowhere near too big lol

I prefer Mepps because they seem to have the best action. The blade spins all the time and never gets tangled up like cheaper ones. I have a handful of Rooster Tails as well. They have a lot of florescent colors which is good for peacocks. Largemouth don't hate the flourescent yellow either.

Well it's South Florida, so winter means mid-high 70s during the day. But I haven't seen any gar lately. Earlier in the summer, there were a million at this one pond. I haven't been there a ton lately, but I didn't see any the past couple times I was there (within the past month).

And a couple of the bright Rooster Tails. The one on top (or right depending how this pic uploads) is some smaller 1/8oz and it is a bass killer. I gave one to my little bro and he caught that ~5lb largemouth on it. He was lucky that little hook on an ultralite landed such a big fish.

Snakehead seem to love the Mepps and other spinners too.

I FINALLY caught a fish on a topwater lure!

Had one hit earlier too, but tried to set the hook too hard. This guy, I let him take the bait under water before I set it.

PepsiFag, I live in south florida, and love going lake fishing. I bought some Mepps likes you suggested in another thread, but i've been having ALOT of luck with wackyrigged worms. I've caught about 40 fish in the lakes just this year. No action, just cast, let it sit for a minute or two, and strike.

Where do you stay? I'm in Deerfield. But this morning I went out to Miramar real early.

Supposedly they are best at dusk and dawn, when the water is fairly calm and you can see the fish feeding at the top. Today is fairly warm, and I was trying some poppers like a month ago when it was warm and got a handful of bites, but was setting the hook too quick. Also the water was real calm this morning, but there is a light breeze right now and they are still biting.

I just got another bite on this rubber frog, but couldn't hook it. That's the one problem with weedless lures like that.

I'm way out southwest, by Kendall. Got caught by the lake fishing bug a few months ago, still haven't caught anything on a hard lure. Soft plastics though have worked real well for me for the largemouth/smallmouth bass. New Years resolution is to catch a peaock.
