I was on a drained lake at Rickets Glen in PA, and we used them to mark a safe way through the mud that could reach 6 feet deep.
However, I saw some along a path to a waterfall up in Ithica that someone clearly took the time to climb over to a ledge and build. Two well placed throws of a rock knocked it down :)
