Is it gay if me and my friend ride a tandem bike together to uni? We dont have enough money to buy two seperate bike and it'll help us bond more. We're both not gay, however we both dont have girlfriends but we arnt gay.

But that was the 70s, these days it's really gay. If your friend is blind tho, it's probably ok.

It depends totally on the presentation.
I would do it, I rode a tandem for a while with my brother and loved it, we could get going pretty quick and were able to carry a lot of kit.
I think your best bet is to be just a bit ironic. Get tassels for the bar ends, and maybe a bell, Spoke accessories and lights. Spray paint it if you know how to paint.
If anyone ever gives you legitimate shit about it, claim that both you and your friend have had bikes stolen/vandalized many times. Uni kids understand how tight money can be. Bike theft is very common on college/uni campuses. Some of my mates would buy ugly older bikes specifically because they knew nice ones would get jacked.

This. Just get someone with a vehicle to drive you to the next closest college. Go at night and check for unlocked bikes, there's always a few. Grab it and ride off to the predetermined pickup spot off campus. Throw the bike in the vehicle and drive back to your college.

You can pay less but it'll probably start to fall apart after a couple hundred miles. These days you're lucky to get a decent single for $750 new that'll stand up to real riding. Even used that's pretty cheap for a tandem unless you got a good deal on a stolen one or you got it at a divorce sale.

Duh. Only a petite lesbian couple that weighs less than 180 pounds total could ride a sub-$1K tandem without breaking all the spokes before they got to the end of the block.
