What do you do when the night's are long and the days are short? Went hiking myself in December

Actually just thought fuck it at 6am and hiked in the dark with my headtorch until sunrise (was just a forest path).

How do you keep yourself occupied in downtime?

Having trouble with the same thing here in Texas, it's a warm winter but it doesn't get cold cold here til on into February and March. Went for an afternoon hike yesterday at around 4 next thing I know sun is going down over a hill and it's getting cool and dark. Was pretty disappointed

This is the #1 reason winter camping sucks. Sorry, it sucks. Not even any wildlife making noise. It's desolate, cold, and fucking dark. -

Looking forward to those June days that run til damn near midnight, and then, if you stay up a little too late listening to the loons and the owls the horizon begins to glow and they start all over again. I go fishing that time of year in the early evening and just stay out all night into mid morning.

My sunrise and sunset are "8:35 AM with 7:05 of sunlight, then sets at 3:40 PM"

I just go hiking in the snow. I don't stay out as long, it's dark when I get off a trail, usually 4:30 pm or so. But stomping through a fresh snow is hard and I just get a different kinda exercise. I'm a lot more spent winter hiking than in the summer.

Only fun way ive really found is show up early sat morning somewhere, state park campground or some shit. Leave vehicles at gate in front and hike in a ways. Always a pain cuz like 2 ft of undisturbed snow.

Everyone set up tents. Takes a while.
Drink. Spend an inordinate amount of time gathering firewood. Drink, go sledding or some shit, boom day is over.

Everyone put on dry clothes, drink/smoke to sleep.

It's not healthy.
