>>667048How it works in Norway: I generally can't carry a weapon in public, that includes outdoor areas. Exceptions are off course when we use the guns for hunting. Hunting is seasonal for the most part, most hunting is done in the autumn with a few exceptions like boars, they can be hunted all year long. So potentially, someone who hunts boars can be armed every time he goes /out/. Another exception is places with bears. There are a high amount if bears in certain places, and occationally someone shoots a bear in self defense. You can carry for self defense there.
In Svalbard they also don't underestimate the threat from Polar Bears, afaik they carry guns everywhere up there, at all times.
As for bad guys in the woods, it's not something you need to worry about in this part of the world. I might carry protection in other parts of the world though, if that's how the locals do it.
All tools like axes, machetes, knives etc. are of course legal in the woods because they are considered tools not self defense weapons. Police would only react if you carried those things in urban and suburban areas and you were not using them for work.
That's basically how the laws are but as most human beings, europeans also bend or break rules. While I haven't heard of many people who carry weapons for self defense in the woods, I know people bring them just for fun and to do some shooting.
