That's because the people who do it don't want A) to get sued for wrong or incomplete information resulting in poisoning. And B) don't want any more competition, because it's hard to find that shit already.

Iktf though. Wikipedia probably has a map of areas each shroom grows in, and identifiable characteristics. You just need to know the name of what you're looking for and trust your life to a peer created, peer reviewed website.

Stay away from them. Most of the time they'll be infested with maggots. And on top of that, they'll get you massively fucked up in a horrible, horrible way.

-When harvesting chanterelles, cut them off close to the ground. This allows them to regrow more quickly. DON'T PULL THEM OUT OF THE GROUND.
-Also, if you find one chanterelle, there are bound to be more around. Search carefully and thoroughly.
-Know what you're looking at. False chanterelles are common here. If you're in doubt, don't pick/eat.
