I myself prefer swiss army knives overall, but I like pliers too. For a long time, I considered going camping with a multitool, but ended up sticking with my knife and take regular combo pliers with it.
Both Victorinox and Wenger are great brands, and actually pretty much the same thing since Victorinox bought Wenger, and after a few years of sharing patents and tehcnologies, their knives are virtually similar. And I trust their knives more than I trust Leatherman multitools, because these swiss knives never failed; Leatherman multitools did. And I wasn't even innawoods.
Also, multitools are more of everyday tools for me. They tend to have plenty tools that find more uses in an urban environment than innawoods. They're also "multitools" not "knives", and that makes a huge difference when you take it out, people will react very differently.
Now things have changed, Victorinox makes multitools too, and while I haven't tested these, I'd bet they're every bit as sturdy and reliable as their knives are.
Also, both Wenger and Victorinox started making knives with pliers. Pic related. Right now, Wenger makes the best ones, very similar to multitool pliers, while Victorinox's lack wire cutters, and aren't as comfortable to use.
I'm on the edge of getting a Wenger knife with pliers, the only thing holding me back is that I can't find one with the proper tools, and also that plenty times, I had to use both my swiss knife and my pliers at the same time, so I'm wondering if it's even worth it. And the pliers I have are so much better than those on a multitool or knife too...
