Pluck mid-wing feathers, shave underneath the main pinion, and ensure that the feathers are as close as possible to symmetrical. Aim for a 3 degree deviation from straight shaft, 1-2 degrees won't fuck you that bad that way.

Easiest way is to insert the arrow through the cloaca and push it through until it makes its way out of the beak. Use a bit of string to prevent the bird from slipping off the back of the arrow.

Before you do some dumb shit like this again OP, pay a visit to your state game departments website. If the bird isn't listed in there, you can't kill it. Seriously, know your laws, you can get serious fines for this shit.
Also don't kill unless it's something you are going to eat.
And don't expect to use feathers from little birds for arrows, turkey feathers are what you want.
