Just by chance came across this and wondered what /out/ would think about it , especially people from the UK. Cropped a bit out but link is below.
A MAN caught with a Bear Grylls-style knife in his backpack has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Fabian Ralph Tassinari, aged 29, pleaded guilty to possession of a knife blade after he was arrested in Ammanford on January 9.
He had been walking home to Treforest, Betws, at around 9.30pm when he was stopped by police.
"The police were trying to engage with him but he told them he didn't like talking to cops," said Crown Prosecutor Sian Vaughan.
"They asked him if he had anything on him he shouldn't have.
"He said he had a knife in his rucksack."
District Judge David Parsons questioned whether it was a Bear Grylls-style knife and was told it was, and had a three and three quarter inch blade.
Tim Jenkins for the Probation Service said Tassinari would often go into the forest and use the knife for bushcraft, making tents or rafts if ever things were tough at home.
"There was no victim in this," said Mr Jenkins. "The only concern is he couldn't link his anger management and having a knife on him.
"He's been trying to make the best of things and cycles several miles to work and does every shift he can to support his family.
District Judge Parsons said the public would be "rightly concerned" about young men carrying knifes.
"Your case was in benign circumstances and there were no aggravating features.
"You handed it over and told the police you had it then pleaded guilty so those factors save you from custody."
Tassinari was given a 14-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months.
He must complete 50 hours unpaid community work and a rehabilitation activity requirement. He must also pay £85 costs and an £80 surcharge.
The knife will be destroyed.
