>>71498it really depends on what you're preparing for
water and shelter are the priority
have a few bottles of water and something to keep you warm in the car/bag (a camping basic, really)
have the ability to store a week's worth of water in a pinch at home (emergency basic)
make sure you have a generator if it matters for keeping your house heated
up to a month of food, you don't even have to prepare (just common sense pantry)
2-6 months of food is a bit trickier, but like some people have pointed out in this thread, it's really unnecessary and you probably shouldn't do it unless you're doing it for pickles, preserving fruit, treats you like, etc
hoarding food isn't any different from hoarding newspapers so if you're doing it because of habeeb and not because you're the incarnation of the tf2 pyro with a sweet tooth, you might want to talk to someone about why you're so stressed out
biological, chemical, nuclear issues are too long to get into especially since you didn't ask
one thing that /out/ seems to not really be into is basic emergency "medicine" and I've found that by far one of the most useful things to learn about
have tweezers, sharp scissors/knife, mirror, clean bandages, bandaids of different sizes with low-friction covers, sterilizing liquids, and a few nsaids and tums
know your body and needs/limitations and learn how cpr, splints, and penetrating/non-penetrating wounds work
be aware of ticks/snakes/dangerous animals or plants in your area and how not to fall into something stupid
have a way of getting in touch with folks when you need help
