Anyone else here carry a hammock and a tent? I carry both. The hammock for sitting in and the tent for sleeping. We can have both so don't be haters.

Also hammock general because the last thread reached the bump limit.

Why? Do most of them not carry tarps? My tarp is my GI poncho, so I tie that up first and am under it when I hang my hammock. Usually, while tentfags are still trying to push pegs into muddy, uneven ground. But to each their own.

I carry a hammock and bed roll. The bed roll is nice for when I don't have trees to hang from, mostly.

I have the money; just not sure if want to sacrifice the camo I want and get the zip closure or get the multicam I want but have to deal with velcro. I've heard Velcro isn't very good for hammocking and that'll prob make or break my reasons for buying/not buying one or the other.

I carry a tarp with me, so I stay nice and dry. Plus it's nice being able to set up literally every where in my state...no need to find a clearing for a tent now.

I carry both for the same reason if its a short casual camping trip. If its a serious backpacking trip I go as minimal as possible and spend the majority of time walking and sleeping.

Tarps keep you dry, or else I wouldn't use a tarp / hammock set up in WA. It's all about how you set it up. Even McQbushcraft, alfieasthetics, are hammock campers, both live in a rainy as fuck place like I.

How do you set up the poncho tarp for your hammock?

I was in the army as well, infantry, but we rarely used the ponchos because our CO was convinced that the Charlie's would see it above the brush and know where we were.

Asymmetrical. My hammock is just barely short enough to fit under it. I usually run a couple feet of paracord off the lower corners and stake them down with sticks. Never had an issue with rain, and have gone through a couple fairly heavy storms, neither had particularly high winds, though.

Depending on which direction I lay in the hammock, I either get a wind-tunnel effect or completely seals off tight enough to keep (most) mosquitoes out. I was thinking about making a tyvek poncho tarp slightly larger than GI specs to make it lighter and protect from rain better, though.

It's because Hammocks are unsual/exotic equiqment. In Germany most outdoorians still stick in the 1980/1990's. Now I use Hammocks for sitting ! A amazing different and groundbreaking outdoor experience.

Another example: I never ever see a person hanging/straping a backpack on a tree. German hikers always put their backpack onto the ground. While moaning about how bad their back hurts ...

The last 25 years I did the same until I see a english-languaged youtube. A
considerable rise in comfort was dicoverd this day ...

This is why I love globalization (internet).

I carry either a hammock or a stool depending on the length of the trip and what the forecast is like. If it's likely to rain I'm taking the stool, if it's going to be sunny I'll likely take the hammock. They weigh almost the same. I sleep in a tent regardless.

Not really a good idea. What you could do is just lay it on the ground. I've done that a few times and it's actually a bit more comfortable for sleeping and alot warmer since you don't have cold air underneath you.
