>>697783Man, I worked for a general contractor for several years who was friends with a guy who ran a tree trimming service and 3-4 times a year we'd have to go repair a roof or carport or something where his guys accidentally dropped a tree or limb onto a house. It was never anything too major, normally just a hole punched through the roof decking and maybe some busted sheet rock or tile inside the house. Those guys were GOOD at what they did too, they'd routinely take down 100ft+ tall Pines right next to a house, bringing it down in large sections with ropes so that they wouldn't damage the house or the surrounding trees, one guy would climb to the top of that damn thing with spikes and a belt carrying a chainsaw... The point being, if those guys who cut down trees 6 days a week all year long fuck up sometimes then I never assume that everything will go exactly as planned when I attempt to fell a tree myself. I move everything I can out of the way and always attempt to apply a good bit of tension using rope and a come-along to get the tree to fall in the direction I want it to go. I won't even attempt to bring a tree down that's next to power lines or leaning over a house.
