a) i don't know you at all and
b) it's an anniversary trip with my woman
The drive honestly isn't bad if you take it in stages. ATX -> Fort Stockton is 5 hours, totally managable in an evening if you have 1 relief driver. You can sleep in your truck in the Fort Stockton Walmart parking lot for free or get a motel for ~$60. Then you wake up bright and early at 5 or 6 and it's only 3 hours into the park from there.
Camp out, crash in Fort Stockton again on your way back, stop for lunch at a Biergarten in Fredericksburg, and you're home in time to unpack and watch a movie before bed.
