>>75438If you do not happen to live near an iron-bearing spring, or rather not dig in a bog, you can obtain iron by running magnets through dark colored sands and collecting what sticks. It does take quite a bit of sand to collect enough ferrous material to bother smelting. Perhaps a 5 gallon bucket for something the size of dude's knife.
