Depends on the outing number in the group and length of stay.

Most of what I use alone or with a plus one is a MSR Alpine Stowaway. For Family outings around 8 to 12 people we always have a dutch.

I mostly just roast things on a stick, things like sausages, bacon and bread. I also like to wrap the food in aluminium foil and cook it in the coals. Sometimes I use hand-held grill, when lots of sausages are to be made at once, and when I'm staying at a cabin, I sometimes cook in a kettle.

But most of the time I tend to minimise the amount of things needed for cooking. A stick is almost always enough, and I can wait for more complicated meals until I'm back home.

Trangia burner, Steel mug & pocket stove
Trangia for wet weather & I need warm now.
Fits inside trangia slot of pocket stove.
Pocket stove for stealth fire and cooking when trangia is out of fuel.
Boil food in foil/bag inside mug use hot water for tea/coffee.

We attend festivals and events and do car camping. Obviously this would not work for backpackers, but we love our propane Coleman. Our cookware came from Goodwill.

I don't get very fancy. Use a food-grade steel water bottle to boil tea water in, fry up hobo bread in a little folding handled pot, and make soup with my trusty billy can.
I'd definitely splurge for something cast iron if I were on a less mobile adventure.

Does anyone use a reflector oven? My orienteering teacher would use one to make pillsbury biscuits; it worked perfectly. Folds up really small; I might get one just to encourage myself to eat better on the trail.

Light as fuck and you can even fit the stove inside the stowed cookset with room to spare. I keep a small fishing kit inside it too.

Wow that's a pretty cheap setup. Wonder if it's available in Canada.

I'm looking for something that can cook for 3- 4 people... Which is my usual group size.

Easy and lighter to make breads in a turkey roasting bag with a honeycomb. Just add water to the bottom of a pot and steam cook it.

also those cheap coleman $8 mess kits are fucking awsome for what they cost, sure it's really thin gauge aluminum and will burn food and bend easy but it bends back and for the money you can't beat it, i just lvoe actually having a plate

I use the Coleman set. It's an amazing buy for the money. Not anywhere near as durable as the cast iron pot I used prior to it. But the trade off for a full cooking set is easily worth it.
