ATX backpacker reporting in.

You can easily do a solo trip to Pedernales falls or Enchanted Rock. Not a lot of real "backpacking" to do unless you go out to Sam Houston Natl. Forest (near Conroe) or out west to the Big Bend region.

ive been to perdanales and sam houston natl forest but not big bend yet. i wanted to go to big bend with a group or a few people who like going on several mile hikes. i cant get any of my friends to take the drive to Big bend.

Dallas here, even fewer campahs here. I've done a lot of rafting/camping but never alone and no more then day hikes. I want to backpack so bad, but scared to do my first real hike alone.

Pedernales has a few back country sites. For real backpacking you have to go to BBNP or a different state.

yeah i went there with a buddy who was in the army after floating the guadalupe. we went to the back country site with a 12 pack of beer and tent in case it rained we basically drank and then layed down on the ground. my buddy got a lot of sleep but i was half awake most of the night we then walked the river in the morning and tried to cross it at some rapids.

The Austin Regional Group now meets on the SECOND Tuesday of every month (except holidays) in North Dining Room of Scholz' Beer Garten, 1607 San Jacinto.
