hey /out/,

I had a hatchet like this one for about a year and it lasted me pretty well, but last weekend I had to leave a campsite in a bit of a hurry and accidentally left it behind. Could y'all recommend me a decent hatchet in the 50-100 dollar price range? It would be nice if it had a pointed end like this one or something else along those lines for digging roots.

mostly splitting wood and felling small trees. I've been working on an A frame shelter so it would need to be able to fell poles.

well if you are more on the camp duty side of things there are some good choices, there is husqvarna, wetterlings, and gransfors bruks is just slightly over the 100 range but it will outlive you and you can hand it down to your children.

these are all on the large hatchet, small axe side of things most general use/versatile size

Not OP, but isnt that an SOG Tactical Tomahawk? I think you can get them at Cabella's for like $40.00

Anybody else own one of these more modern 'tactical tomahawks'? Is there anything to them or are they just meant as breaching tools that you can dick around with if you like?

I have been considering getting a ColdSteel Trailhawk. There are a lot of cool things you can do to them to make it an even better hatchet/tomahawk and they are around $40.

They got popular by some SF operators carrying them and later came up in video games.

The true tactical ones are meant to be light and quick, built to inflict a quick wound or be thrown. Theres not enough weight behind them to really get into wood. Theyre good for stripping saplings and de-barking but you might as well carry a real hatchet that can do that and also bust stuff down.

Ive owned a few tactical tomahawks.
