During WW2 it's said that Japs would tie up their prisoners sometimes with their legs spread and anuses exposed over a piece of bamboo which had been cut and sharped to a point.
In the tropics bamboo can grow a foot in a day, or something quite amazing like that.
The bamboo would grow up and through the prisoner.
