Too many people think you just toss out hooks covered in prepared bait as far as possible and wait 2 hours for a bite and if that doesn't work, then you keep waiting.
That'd be like bass fishing and only sticking with one lure, in one spot (ignoring structure and cover), casting to the same place, with the same retrieve, and hoping a fish will strike.
If you do cat fishing right, you'll be moving to different spots, catching live bait, targeting different areas, changing rigs and presentations, etc. Just like any other fish.
Flatheads especially are predators who usually won't hit anything other than a live swimming panfish.
Plus I usually take an ultralight rod to catch panfish for bait- thebiggest catfidh are almosy always consistently caught on live or cut fish- and if I'm having absolute zero luck, I can at least catch them.
