>>797541>>797510My grandad does that in his garden to keep away moles. I don't know how successful it is, but the idea is that the wind blowing the bottles makes them rattle about, and the vibrations cary down the stick into the ground which makes moles go "nope".
Though he usually does it with glass bottles. I guess it'd work with plastic too. I have no idea if that's really why it's in the movie, but that's what i assumed when i saw it.
