The main ones are from the way the head attaches. In case you don't know, it slips on from the bottom and is held on with friction. This means you can easily take off the head to use as a knife similar to, if not as effective as, an ulu. You can also more easily make a handle innawoods if yours breaks. Or, if you're an ultralighter, you can just take the head with you and make a handle when you get there.
Now, I'm not saying that you can't make a replacement handle for a hatchet innawoods. But it wouldn't be as easy.
And as you said, it was designed as a weapon, so it should perform in that aspect better than a hatchet should you need it to.
